With staycations being the likely holiday destinations this Summer, inland waterways are likely to be a popular destination. This initiative by Berthon and others is most welcome and should be a great example for charter companies to follow.
Berthon is offering clinically approved decontamination of boats, to reduce the 72-hour contamination quarantine of surfaces to one hour. The process of sterilisation is known as ‘fogging’ and is delivered by a specialist clinical decontamination company at Berthon’s boatyard in Lymington. The treatment uses the same chemicals that ambulances and hospitals use to decontaminate effectively. The substances used are said to be appropriate antibacterial and antivirus disinfectants that kill 99.9 per cent of microorganisms and viruses, dry within an hour and are not alcohol based, thus non-damaging to use in engine rooms.
